Visitor Visa Holders Can Now Receive a Work-Permit in Canada – August 24th, 2020



Due to COVID-19, some Canadian Employers are struggling finding workers in Canada. In the last months, the Government of Canada has published a lot of new temporary policies to help employers find workers they need. With this new announcement from the Honourable Marco E.L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration Refugees and Citizenship, Foreign Nationals under a temporary resident visa – Visitor Class can now receive a work permit in Canada. Previously, Foreign Nationals under a temporary resident visa – Visitor Class could apply for a work-visa In Canada but they had to leave the country to receive their work-permit.

Requirements to Apply to Receive a Work Permit in Canada

  1. Have a valid status in Canada as a visitor on August 24th, 2020 or before.

  2. Remain in Canada.

  3. Have a job offer.

  4. Submit an employer-specific work permit that is supporter by an LMIA or an LMIA exempt offer of employment before March 31st, 2021.

  5. Meet all other standard admissibility criteria.
