Learn More About the Programs of Nova Scotia

The Province of Nova Scotia has different programs to attract people around the world to immigrate permanently in their province. The province has 3 express entry programs that can give you 600 points if you are nominated under these streams and 4 regular nomination programs.

Express Entry Programs

​

Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry 

​

Note: There are two categories under this program. Category A: for applicants with a job offer and Category B: for applicants with experience in an opportunity occupation.

​

Eligibility to Apply under Category A

​​

  • You must have an active profile under Express Entry. 

  • You must score at least 67 points on their selection factors. 

  • You must have a job offer from an employer. 

  • You must have 1 year of skilled related work experience. 

  • You must have at least a high school diploma.

  • You must score CLB 7 on an English or French language test. 

  • You must show that you have financial resources to settle in Nova Scotia.

Eligibility to Apply under Category B

​

  • You must have an active profile under Express Entry. 

  • You must score at least 67 points on their selection factors. 

  • You must have at least 1 year of skilled experience in one target occupations. 

  • You must have at least a high school diploma.

  • You must score CLB 7 on an English or French language test. 

  • You must show that you have financial resources to settle in Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry ​

​

Note: this program is for applicants with work experience in Nova Scotia 

​

Eligibility to Apply

​

  • You must have 1 year of work experience in Nova Scotia. 

  • Be between 21 to 55 years old. 

  • You must have at least a high school diploma.

  • You must score CLB 7 on an English or French language test for occupations that fall under NOC 0 and A. 

  • You must score CLB 5 on an English or French language test for occupations that fall under NOC B.

  • You must have an active profile under Express Entry.

Labour Market Priorities for Physicians 

​

Note: Only candidates with an approved offer from the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre are eligible to apply under this program. 

​

Eligibility to Apply

​

  • You must have an approved opportunity from the NSHA or IWK as either a general practitioner and family physician (NOC 3112) or a specialist physician (NOC 3111);

  • provide a copy of a signed Return for Service Agreement with the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness indicating commitment to live and work in Nova Scotia for a minimum period of two years

  • You must meet the minimum work-experience requirements as set under Express Entry. 

  • You must have legal status in your country of residence. 

  • You must show that you have financial resources to settle in Nova Scotia.

If you determine that you are eligible in this program, you might be eligible to apply for nomination through the province of New Brunswick. Once you received your positive nomination, you will receive an additional 600 points under your Express Entry Profile.

Regular Nomination Programs 

​

Skilled Worker Stream

​

Note: The Skilled Worker stream helps employers recruit foreign workers and recently graduated international students whose skills are needed in Nova Scotia.

​

Eligibility to Apply

​

  • You must have a job offer from an Employer.

  • You must have 1 year of related work experience to the job offer. 

  • If you are semi-skilled or low-skilled, you must have 6 months of work experience with the employer in Nova Scotia. 

  • You must be between 21 and 55 years old. 

  • You must have at least an High School Diploma. 

  • You must score CLB 5 on an English or French language test for skilled occupation. 

  • You must score CLB 4 on an English or French language test for semi-skilled or low-skilled occupation.

  • You do not need to show any language test if your first language is French or English. 

  • You must show that you have financial resources to settle in Nova Scotia.

Occupations in Demand Stream

​

Note: this stream is for applicants with experience NOC 3413 (Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates) or NOC 7511 (Transport truck drivers).

​

Eligibility to Apply

​

  • You must have a full-time permanent job offer from a Nova Scotia employer in either NOC 3413 (Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates) or NOC 7511 (Transport truck drivers);

  • You must have 1 year relation work experience to the job being offered. 

  • You must between 21 and 55 years old. 

  • You must score CLB 4 on an English or French language test.

  • You must show that you have financial resources to settle in Nova Scotia

​

International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream​

​

Note: this stream is for international graduates who already started or bought a Nova Scotia business and operated for at least 1 year. 

​

Eligibility to Apply

​

  • You must want to live permanently in Nova Scotia while owning your business. 

  • You must have at least 1 year of continuous experience in your business with at least 33.33% ownership.

  • You must have completed least 2 academic years of full-time, in-person study at a university in Nova Scotia or the Nova Scotia Community College;

  • You must score CLB 7 on an English or French language test. 

  • You must have a valid PGWP. 

  • You must complete an online expression of interest.

Physicians Stream

​

Note: The Physician Stream is only open to general practitioners and family physicians (NOC 3112) and specialist physicians (NOC 3111) with signed approved opportunities with the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre.

​

Eligibility to Apply

​

  • You must have an opportunity with the NSHA or IWK and it must written on a letterhead and must includes:

    • "Be signed and dated by a person authorized to hire physicians at the NSHA or IWK

    • Be signed and dated by the applicant who is accepting the opportunity

    • Indicate eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NS

    • Indicate that the applicant is eligible to apply for privileges and credentials with NSHA and the IWK" from NS website.

If you determine that you are eligible in one of these programs, you might be eligible to apply for nomination through the province of Nova Scotia. Once you received your positive nomination, you will need to apply for permanent resident status under the Federal Provincial Nominee program.
