The Alberta Immigration Nominee Program is a nomination program for qualified individuals to become a permanent resident in the province of Alberta. The applicants must have the necessary skills and abilities to fill job shortages in Alberta to become nominated. This nomination program is open to a broad range of workers, entrepreneurs, and international graduates.

The AINP has three main streams and eligible applicants need to submit their application with the requirements via mail. The Government of Alberta will then process the application according to the quality of the application.

 

Note: You may only have one AINP application in process at any time. Do not re-apply if you already have an existing application.

Alberta Opportunity Stream - Foreign Worker (AOS)

 

The Alberta Opportunity Stream is one of the pathways to becoming a Canadian Permanent Resident in the province of Alberta. This pathway is open for foreign nationals currently working in Alberta who holds an eligible occupation (there is a variety of qualified jobs under NOC 0, A, B, C, and D). Upon applying and while the application is being assessed, applicants must be working in an eligible occupation in Alberta and must meet the following requirements:

 

Eligibility to Apply

​

  • You must have a valid job offer from an employer. 

  • You must have a valid work permit.

  • You must be qualified to work in your occupation in Alberta.

  • You must have gained a minimum of 12 months full-time work experience in your current job in Alberta within the last 18 months OR have completed a minimum of 24 months of full-time work experience in your current job in Canada and/or abroad within the last 30 months

  • You must met the minimum language requirements (test results must be less than 2 years old at the time of sending your application)

  • You must have completed a minimum of high school education.

Note: Ineligible candidates: refugees (those under appeal or removal proceedings), temporary residents living outside of Alberta, temporary residents on implied or restoration status, part-time employees regardless of their working hours, independent contractors, business owners or temporary agency workers.

Alberta Opportunity Stream - International Graduates (AOS)

​

Note: The program is for international students who graduated from an approved Alberta public and private post-secondary institutions.

​

 

Eligibility to Apply

​

  • You must have a valid temporary resident status in Canada

  • You must have graduated from a recognized university or college in Alberta. 

  • You must have a full-time job offer from an employer

  • You must have at least 6 months of work experience in Alberta, in an occupation that is related to their field of study, within the last 18 months (work experience must be full-time, for a minimum of 30 hours/week)

  • You must be currently working in an occupation related to his or her field of study in Alberta and must be the same job as the ‘current occupation’ listed in the application

  • You must meet the minimum language requirements (test results must be less than 2 years old at the time of sending your application)

If you determine that you are eligible in one program, you might be eligible to apply for nomination through the province of Alberta. Once you received your positive nomination, you will need to apply for permanent resident status under the Federal Provincial Nominee program.

Alberta Express Entry Stream

 

The Alberta Express Entry stream allows the Government of Alberta to nominate eligible candidates from Canada’s Express Entry system that the Government believes can contribute to the province’s economic development. Candidates who were successfully nominated by the Alberta Government receives an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points that guarantee to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.

Note: International students who graduated in a Canadian post-secondary institution may also be eligible under this stream. This is also open for Foreign Nationals living outside of Canada.

 

Eligibility to Apply 

 

  • You must receive your Notification of Interest from the province of Alberta.

  • Have an active Express Entry profile in the federal Express Entry pool.

  • Have stated an interest to immigrate permanently in AB.

  • You are working in a job that supports Alberta’s economic development and diversification.

  • You have at least a CRS score of 300.

If you determine that you are eligible in one program under the Ontario's Express Entry Category, you might be eligible to apply for nomination through the province of Alberta. Once you received your positive nomination, you will receive an additional 600 points under your Express Entry Profile.
