Since 2002, Permanent Residence fees have not been increased by the Government of Canada. As a result, the Government has realized that Permanent Resident applicants’ fees collected only cover 35% of the total cost of services provided by immigration services.
The objective of this amendment is to reduce the burden on the taxpayers for Permanent Resident programs and services.
What will increase on April 30th, 2020 at 9 am ET?
The Right of Permanent Residence Fee will increase by 2%: from $490 to $500. This fee is only required to be paid if an applicant has been approved for permanent residency.
Processing Fees for principal applicants of the Economic Business class (including self-employed, start-up visa, Quebec investor, Quebec entrepreneur, and Quebec Self-employed) will increase from $1,050 to $1,575.
Processing Fees for principal applicant of the Economic Classes will increase from $550 to $825.
Processing Fees for spouses or common-law partners of the Economic Classes, including business will increase from $550 to $825.
Processing for dependent children of all Economic classes will increase from $150 to $225.
Important Note: the processing fee increase will not apply to principal applicants and their families in the Caregivers programs (the Home Child-Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot).
Fee Will Increase Every Two Years
All processing fees in the economic, Family and Humanitarian classes, as well as the Right of Permanent Residence Fee, will increase every two years to remain consistent with the inflation.
Following prospective fee increased for 2022-2023:
The Right of Permanent Residence Fee (2% increase): from $500 to $520. This fee is only required to be paid if an applicant has been approved for permanent residency.
Processing Fees for principal applicants of the Economic Business class (including self-employed, start-up visa, Quebec investor, Quebec entrepreneur, and Quebec Self-employed) will increase from $1,575 to $1,640.
Processing Fees for principal applicant of the Economic Classes will increase from $825 to $860.
Processing Fees for spouses or common-law partners of the Economic Classes, including business will increase from $825 to $860.
Processing for dependent children of all Economic classes will increase from $225 to $235.
Important Note: processing fees for all non-economic class principal applicants and accompanying family (family sponsoring, protected persons and humanitarian and compassionate class applicants) will not increase until 2022 and will remain at $550. In 2022-2023, the fee will increase to $570.
