Government Processing Fee is Increasing on April 30th, 2020

Since 2002, Permanent Residence fees have not been increased by the Government of Canada. As a result, the Government has realized that Permanent Resident applicants’ fees collected only cover 35% of the total cost of services provided by immigration services.

The objective of this amendment is to reduce the burden on the taxpayers for Permanent Resident programs and services.

What will increase on April 30th, 2020 at 9 am ET?

  • The Right of Permanent Residence Fee will increase by 2%: from $490 to $500. This fee is only required to be paid if an applicant has been approved for permanent residency.

  • Processing Fees for principal applicants of the Economic Business class (including self-employed, start-up visa, Quebec investor, Quebec entrepreneur, and Quebec Self-employed) will increase from $1,050 to $1,575.

  • Processing Fees for principal applicant of the Economic Classes will increase from $550 to $825.

  • Processing Fees for spouses or common-law partners of the Economic Classes, including business will increase from $550 to $825.

Important Note: the processing fee increase will not apply to principal applicants and their families in the Caregivers programs (the Home Child-Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot).

All processing fees in the economic, Family and Humanitarian classes, as well as the Right of Permanent Residence Fee, will increase every two years to remain consistent with the inflation.
