As we are living in an uncertain time due to the Coronavirus pandemic, many immigration programs have been affected. As a quick reminder, you are eligible to apply for Canadian Citizenship if you have stayed in Canada for 1095 days after receiving your permanent residency.
You can also count the days before receiving your permanent residency if you were in Canada
under a temporary resident visa. Each day spent in Canada under a TRV will be counted as 0.5 days for up to two years.
Despite COVID-19, if you are eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship, you can still submit your citizenship application. Nevertheless please see the updates from the Government of Canada below:
As of March 14, 2020, all knowledge tests, retests, and ceremonies have been canceled.
All testing and retesting events and ceremonies scheduled from Saturday, March 14, 2020, until Saturday, April 11, 2020, are canceled. No further testing, retesting or ceremony events should be scheduled effective immediately.
If the Government requires extra documents from you, they will give you an extra 90 days to send them the required documents.
Moreover, if you are outside of Canada under a permanent resident status due to the virus, each day spent outside of the country will not count as days in Canada.
